This Year’s Chinese New Year Print
Here’s a collection of a few Chinese New Year artworks I’ve done over the years.
When we lived in China, this time was always a highlight, especially for our kids – lots of good memories!
I’ve never made prints of any of these, so to celebrate this year, I’m turning one painting into my “2026 Chinese New Year Art Print”. It will become a part of my permanent collection of prints.
And I want you to help me choose which one!
We’ve got oil, ink and watercolour in a few different styles.
Here they are:
Lantern Lane
oil on canvas
I painted this on location in China, just after Covid lockdowns lifted. Little did I know that another, more severe, lockdown was coming. This painting was a bright spot in the midst of a difficult time.
Mandarin Oranges
Ink on watercolour paper
Living just down the highway from China’s orange groves, the freshest most delicious Mandarin Oranges were a part of our holiday season – starting at Christmas and carrying into Chinese New Year. Not only are they tasty, they make a great art subject!
Mandarin Oranges with Mocha’s Mark
Ink and Watercolour on watercolour paper, with acrylic paw print
More oranges! This time in my most recent painting. If you’ve been following me you’ll recognize Mocha’s mark. I turned my back for a second and she added her little paw print in yellow – surprisingly, it looks a lot like a Chinese character. She’s got a great sense for composition!
And finally,
Magnolias
Ink on Watercolour Paper
When we lived in China, our family tradition was to hike up to the magnolia garden. Since everyone else was at home with their families, we’d have this beautifully breath-taking place all to ourselves, just as the magnolias were beginning to bloom.
This is the collection I’ve pulled together. Will you help me choose which one to turn into a print?
#1 Lantern Lane
#2 Mandarin Oranges
#3 Mandarin Oranges with Mocha’s Mark
#4 Magnolias
Tell me which one you pick and why, in the comments.
Thanks for joining,
Charity
